Morpeth's New Veterinary Centre on Schedule for June Opening

21 January 2012

The relocation of Morpeth's oldest veterinary practice to a new £2.5million state-of-the-art development is on target to be finished in June.

The expansion will create six new jobs, including two veterinary surgeons, and the building will make Robson & Prescott’s one of the North East's biggest veterinary surgeries and   purpose built to hospital standard.

The practice, which has a client base of 32,000, is relocating from Low Stanners to the former Northumberland County Council salt depot site as part of of the new Morrisons development in Morpeth being delivered by Dransfield Properties.

North East-based contractor Tolent  - who are also building the new supermarket  -  began the work on October 10 and the building is already taking shape.

The new building will be three times bigger than their current base in Staithes Lane, which has been their home since 1982 but will be demolished to make way for the new Morrison's supermarket.

Robson & Prescott director and veterinary surgeon Chris Green said: "Work is progressing astonishingly quickly and we will be moving within just eight months of the project starting.

"The bulldozers will move into the existing practice at Staithes Lane two weeks after we move to our new premises so it is great news that the work is progressing without any hitches.

"We are limited at the moment by the size and location of our current surgery, and the benefits of the new location and premises will be enormous.

"The new practice will enable us to provide far better facilites, all on one site, and offer a more complete service for all animals – horses, farm, pets, birds and exotics.

"The building is really taking shape now and everyone in the town seems to be talking about the progress that is being made."

Head of Communications at Dransfield Properties Amanda Holmes, said: "It is fantastic to see the new Veterinary Centre taking shape and everyone on the team is looking forward to seeing it completed later in the year."
