23 July 2026
Sainsbury’s Local has officially opened its new convenience store in Hyde, Greater Manchester.
The store opened its doors earlier today, following a special ribbon-cutting, marking the completion of the transformation of the former Audi dealership site located at the junction of Stockport and Dowson Road.
The new 4,300 sq. ft store offers a wide range of everyday products within a modern retail environment, tailored to the needs of communities across, Hyde, Gee Cross, and Woodley.
The store forms part of a wider £4m redevelopment delivered by Dransfield Properties Ltd, which has revived the previously vacant 0.42-hectare site.
Sainsbury’s Local joins PureGym, which opened its new 8,025 sq. ft facility at the development in June following an extensive refurbishment of the former dealership building.
The wider development features 72 parking spaces, including disabled and electric vehicle charging bays, as well as parcel lockers.
David Pilbeam, Sainsbury’s Director of Acquisitions, Capital Projects and Engineering, said: “We’re committed to bringing more of our delicious food to more customers in more locations throughout the UK, making it easier for them to access it however we can. We’re delighted that customers in and around Hyde can now make the most of our new Stockport Road store, which has created jobs and a convenient new place for local people to experience the best that Sainsbury’s convenience stores have to offer.”
Mark Dransfield, Chairman of Dransfield Properties Ltd, said: “The opening of Sainsbury’s Local is an important final step for this development and brings a much-needed convenience offer to this part of Hyde.
“The site is in a highly accessible location, and the new store will provide residents with greater choice for everyday shopping. Alongside PureGym, it creates a strong mix of retail and leisure for the local community.”
The Hyde development is expected to benefit from complementary visits between both Sainsbury’s Local and PureGym, creating a vibrant and accessible destination for the surrounding community, and supporting up to 35 permanent jobs.
