Dransfield Charity Bike Ride Team Take the Plunge for Hospital’s New Pool Project!

19 January 2012

A team of cyclists fielded by South Yorkshire company Dransfield Properties Ltd has raised an impressive £17,370.09 for The Children’s Hospital Charity in Sheffield – after peddling 360 leg aching miles through Italy from Portofino to Rome.

The money has been raised to help transform the hydrotherapy pool and room at the hospital’s Ryegate Therapy Block where hundreds of children from across the region receive vital therapy sessions every year.

It’s the second phase of a renovation project at the centre which has been supported by the charity bike ride team. Last year the team were joined by colleagues and staff to take part in a weekend makeover at Ryegate which transformed the gym, waiting room and therapy room.

Now, as well as planning the next phase of their annual cycle ride, the riders are also getting ready to roll up their sleeves to help with the plans for a new hydrotherapy pool and room which is also being supported in part, with proceeds from The Children’s Hospital Charity’s Winter Ball which was held in November.

Dransfield Properties has joined forces with Henry Boot Construction to completely refurbish the Therapy Pool.

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties Ltd, said: “This year we are celebrating our 20th year in business and we are delighted to be marking that milestone in the company’s history by getting involved with another Sheffield business Henry Boot who are celebrating their 125th year! We would like to thank everyone who has continued to support our fundraising efforts for The Children’s Hospital Charity”.

Cat Powell, Arts for Health Coordinator at The Children’s Hospital, said: “This is a fantastic amount and we’re really looking forward to starting this project at Ryegate.

“The Arts for Health Programme, which is funded by The Children’s Hospital Charity, will oversee the refurbishment of the hydrotherapy pool, ensuring that we provide a calm, but interesting environment for the children in order to enhance their therapy sessions.”

Dransfield Properties in partnership with the Hull Company PDR launched the 2020 Tour of Europe in 2007 after cycling from London to Paris – since then more than £220,000 has been raised for charity through the annual event.

This year the team are covering a further 340 miles cycling from Rome to Dubrovnik.

The team are planning to complete a leg of their tour every year and be back at London Bridge where they started by 2020.

Last year’s ride from Portofino to Rome raised £45,000 which has been donated to three charities; The NSPCC, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and The Children’s Hospital Charity in Sheffield.
