Dransfield Properties’ shopping centres record strong Christmas trade!

8 January 2024

Shopping centres across the Dransfield Properties portfolio have recorded strong footfall throughout December – beating last year’s figures across most of the company’s award-winning retail destinations.

The company’s Fox Valley development in north Sheffield is fully occupied both in terms of retail and office space and enjoyed a strong festive period with visitor numbers showing a 4% increase on the previous year.

Also fully let, visitor numbers at Sanderson Arcade in Morpeth, Northumberland showed an increase of 3.4% throughout the year helped by an improved food and beverage offer with the opening of Martino Lounge in the summer.

Lincolnshire’s Marshall’s Yard maintained its strong footfall throughout December and during the month welcomed Hays Travel to the Gainsborough development. The centre will be soon announcing an exciting new retailer which is set to take the former Wilko space following their national closure in October last year.

At Five Valleys in Stroud, nestled in the Cotswolds, visitor numbers were up 4.5% during 2023 compared to last year. Despite the closure of Wilko the centre had a 1% increase in Christmas shoppers during the month of December compared to December 2022. The centre also has an exciting period ahead when it will announce the opening of three national retailers at the scheme, which is still undergoing an extensive £30m refurbishment.

Managing Director at Dransfield Properties, James Shepherd, said: “It has been a tough 12 months for the retail industry, but we have worked hard at producing that point of difference with a busy line up of events and attractions, which has resulted in strong visitor numbers during this key time for retail.

“We have also welcomed a good number of new retailers during 2023 with more new openings to come in the first quarter of this year. Our centres remain 98% let – so despite a turbulent global economy, we enter the New Year in a strong position.”

This year will see Dransfield Properties carry out a phased opening of their East London retail development. As well as bringing 277 residential apartments to the area through a partnership with Barrett Homes, the joint venture with Land Management is now focused on letting the remaining few retail units, bringing this area of East Ham to life.
