Work Gets Underway on New Veterinary Practice in Morpeth
20 October 2011
Work has started on Robson and Prescott’s brand new Veterinary Centre in Morpeth – the practice is being relocated as part of the new supermarket development at the Low Stanners site in the town.
A special soil cutting ceremony was held this week to mark the start of work at the practice which is being built on the former County Council Salt Depot site at Whorral Bank.
The brand new centre will be ready by next summer and will allow the practice, which currently employs 50 people, to grow and expand. It will have separate treatment areas for equine and farm animals and small animals. There will also be a paddock, stabling, manege and a trotting up area.
The new centre will be twice the size of the current premises at Low Stanners, is set in landscaped grounds and will have excellent access and parking.
Practice Manager Shelagh Prescott of Robson and Prescott said: “We are extremely lucky to have such a fantastic opportunity. The new practice will be a state of the art development. Morpeth currently has nothing of this scale and everyone in the practice is very pleased about the facilities that we will be able to offer.”
The new development is being built by North East based contractors Tolent who are also due to start work on the main supermarket site at Low Stanners next month.
Cllr Andrew Tebbutt of Northumberland County Council welcomed the development in the town, saying Morpeth was fortunate to be benefiting by further investment in jobs and facilities.
He added: “Dransfield Properties have worked with the people of Morpeth and the changes and improvements that have been made are greatly appreciated. Everyone outside of Morpeth envies what we have to offer and the commitment that we have received. Everyone living within Morpeth is excited about what else is left to come. We cannot wait to see the development completed.”
Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, thanked the professional team and the local authority. He added: “It was five years ago when we first approached the practice about relocating and we are delighted to be here today cutting the first soil on their brand new practice.
“We are looking forward to seeing the finished building next year and work also starting next month on the supermarket site.”
