Splashing time at Marshall's Yard!

30 April 2007

Chairman of West Lindsey District Council Councillor Mick Tinker and 30 pupils from Benjamin Adlard School had a splashing time when they switched on the fountains at Marshall's Yard in Gainsborough!

The 81 jet fountain form the centrepiece of the £1 million Marshall’s Yard peace gardens and piazza area, and provide a stunning setting in which shoppers can relax after a hard day’s shopping.

The water jets rise to varying levels and speeds, to form different pattern formations complemented by coloured lighting.  Each jet is set into the ground, so the area can double as performance space if necessary.  Or the really brave can try walking across the fountains to see if they can get to the other side without getting wet!

Over 8,000 gallons of water will flow through the fountains, and in line with the Marshall’s Yard green policy, water will be recirculated through the fountains after being treated and purified by the screening plant.

The water feature has been installed by The Fountain Company, which has delivered a number of equally impressive features throughout the UK.  The company is also making two stainless steel spherical water features, which will sit at the pedestrian entrance at the Tesco end of the centre.

Richard Hill, Centre Manager at Marshall’s Yard, said: “Visitors to Marshall’s Yard have been eagerly awaiting the switch on of the fountains and I am sure they will be delighted to see them in operation.  They are a great addition to the unique character of Marshall’s Yard and I am sure they will prove to be a popular focal point for families visiting the centre.”
