Ryegate pool project given top national industry award
8 October 2013
The brand new hydrotherapy pool which opened at the Children’s Hospital in Sheffield earlier this year has been awarded a top industry accolade.
The project to replace the 50 year old pool at the Ryegate therapy block was delivered by Dransfield Properties Ltd working with another South Yorkshire firm - Henry Boot Construction.
The team at DPL helped to fundraise for the new state of the art pool as well as organising volunteer sessions and project managing the scheme.
The new pool was opened in March this year and is making a huge difference to the treatment and therapy of hundreds of young patients who use the centre.
And the project has now been named The Corporate Social Responsibility Project of the Year by the National Federation of Builders in the organisation's annual award ceremony.
Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield said: “We are delighted that the Ryegate pool project has been given this prestigious award. This is without a doubt one of the most rewarding projects that we have been involved with as a company.
“Everyone involved with the new pool, from fundraising through to working on the actual construction, is immensely proud of what has been achieved, so it’s great for the whole team to receive this acknowledgement of their hard work."
The new pool is used to treat children with a range of disabilities, helping them to develop their skills, strengthen their bodies, or provide sensory treatment to improve their quality of life. It is also used by children following serious accidents and by those with brain or spinal injuries.
With its improved design, the new sunken pool is easier to access, features modern lighting, including lights beneath the water, and has an improved hoist system. The specialist hoist system allows patients to be moved from the changing rooms straight into the pool and shower room.
Henry Boot Construction donated management and labour costs and utilised their local supply chain contacts for the project and Dransfield Properties Ltd raised £35,000 through charity bike rides in Europe and also used their contacts within the property industry as well as holding volunteer days for staff to work on the project.
These generous contributions are valued at around £150,000 and add to the initial £50,000 raised for the project at The Children’s Hospital Charity’s Winter Ball in 2011.
