Public Consultation Planned for Morpeth’s Supermarket Development

Public Consultation Planned for Morpeth’s Supermarket Development

5 January 2011

The developers behind the plans for Morpeth’s new supermarket will unveil their detailed proposals at a public consultation session being held in the town on Wednesday January 12th.

Dransfield Properties Ltd will be holding an open session to give residents and interested parties the chance to view the proposals and give their feedback before the detailed planning application is submitted.

The plans and visuals of the foodstore planned for the Low Stanners site in Morpeth will be displayed at Austin House, Sanderson Arcade from 12pm until 6pm on January 12th.

Members of the professional team including architects, highways consultants and engineers will be on hand to answer questions. Visitors to the exhibition will also be invited to comment on the plans.

The design team has been working on the detailed plans since the outline application was approved by Northumberland County Council in June 2010.

Now those plans are to be unveiled to the public before being submitted to the authority. The development will deliver:

·         A new 50,000 sq ft town centre foodstore

·         283 short stay car parking spaces

·         296 long stay car parking spaces

·         Strong pedestrian links to the town centre

·         An attractive landscaping scheme and footpaths

The foodstore will be built over two floors. The Low Stanners site, which partly houses a council depot, is an ideal location for a second foodstore in Morpeth with good links to the rest of the town.

Managing Director for Dransfield Properties Ltd Mark Dransfield said: “We are very pleased with the designs for the supermarket which we have been working on for the last six months.

“We are very aware of the need to ensure the new development is not only architecturally pleasing but that it links in and fits in with the existing town centre and we look forward to displaying these detailed plans at our open consultation session.”

The consultation session will take place at Austin House, Sanderson Arcade, Morpeth. For further information about the company visit our website at www.dransfield.co.uk
