Hundreds of shoppers turned out at the weekend to meet actor, TV star and keen fisherman Robson Green at a special book signing event organised by Waterstones at Sanderson Arcade.

Robson, who is originally from Hexham, visited the Arcade to sign copies of his new book Extreme Fishing which accompanies his hit TV series featuring the fantastic fishing travels which have taken him to all corners of the world.

Shoppers queued to meet the popular TV star who signed more than 130 books during his visit on Saturday afternoon.

And after his book signing session he popped to Curiously Wicked for afternoon tea where he was presented with a chocolate sculpture of a fish to celebrate the success of his best-selling book.

Robson chatted to fans and staff at Waterstones about his travels saying he’d visited some extraordinary places and met some extraordinary people but always loved coming home to the North East.

He added; “I love coming here to Sanderson Arcade because I used to live at Mitford and would be here every other day. I was in M&S, Curiously Wicked and I go the health shop on the corner - I really love this Arcade.”

Staff at Waterstones said the event was a great success and the best attended of the three book signings which were held throughout the day across the North East. They’re hoping to hold more book signing events.

Centre manager at Sanderson Arcade Medi Parry said: “It was a real pleasure to have Robson Green visiting us here at Sanderson Arcade, he stayed for quite a lot longer than we expected, signing copies of his book and chatting to customers about the book and of course about the North East.

“Everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves and we were delighted to see so many people come along on a sunny Saturday afternoon to meet our special guest.”

Robson is putting his native North East in the TV limelight in his latest TV programme called How The North Was Built and is also working on a new series called My Northumberland.
