Day four - and the DPL cycle ride team are well over half way there!

18 September 2013

The Dransfield Properties charity cycle ride team are now more than half way through their 2013 Tour of Europe challenge after completing day four today (Wednesday).

The riders have arrived in the coastal town of Novalja in Croatia after setting off from Dubrovnik on their six day ride on Sunday - they've now completed 292 miles of their tough cycling challenge which has taken them along the mountainous coast of Croatia.

The 16 strong team, of riders fielded by the South Yorkshire based company Dransfield Properties Ltd are covering a total 420 miles from Dubrovnik in Croatia to Trieste in Italy.

They've now arrived in Novalja for an overnight stay before the final two days of this year’s tour which finishes on Friday in Trieste.

Since the annual ride started back in 2007 the route has covered more than 1,860 miles and raised an impressive £256,000 for charity.

This year is the seventh leg of the tour and an extra day’s cycling has been added to make it the most challenging route to date with six days on the bikes, more miles to cover and a tough and mountainous route to navigate.

Along with the regular members who’ve joined the ride every year the team is also welcoming some new faces who have added their pedal power to raise funds for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and St Andrew’s Children's Hospice in Grimsby.

The team aim to complete a leg of their journey every year returning to London by 2022.

Mark Dransfield, managing director of Dransfield Properties, said: “It's been a really tough challenge this year and the final two days have got some tough climbs for us so although we’ve covered more than half the miles in this year’s challenge we can't relax just yet and we know the last 48 hours are going to be really hard.

“We’re also determined to do the best we can for the charities we are supporting this year and would like to thank all our sponsors who have supported us so far.”
