Day five and the end is in sight for Team DPL’s cyclists
19 September 2013
Members of the cycle ride team fielded by Barnsley based Dransfield Properties are on the home straight – with just one last day on their bikes before they complete this year’s 420 mile challenge.
The 16 riders set off from Dubrovnik on Sunday and have spent the week cycling along the mountainous Croatian coastline with the aim of getting to Trieste by tomorrow evening.
Today the team covered nearly 70 miles and have battled wind, rain and climbs of more than 2,300 ft to get to Dramalj where they’ll stay this evening before heading off for the last day’s cycling into Italy in the morning.
Team DPL's riders are using their pedal power to raise funds for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and St Andrew’s Children's Hospice in Grimsby.
The team started their tour of Europe in 2007 riding from London to Paris – they aim to complete a leg of their journey every year returning to London by 2022.
Mark Dransfield, managing director of Dransfield Properties, said: “Today has been a tough day, the hills have been really hard and after four days of cycling we’ve all felt really tired. We’ve done two extra days riding this year to really challenge the team and it certainly has been a challenge so far.”
