Young owl watches Wednesday win in style!
7 March 2007
Young Sheffield Wednesday fanatic Jack Danforth had a footballing day to remember this Saturday - not only did he watch his favourite team secure a three-two victory in a derby match with Leeds United, but he was treated to a day at Elland Road where he was able to watch the match from an executive box.
Ten year old Jack is currently a patient at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, and he was treated to his special day by Barnsley-based developers Dransfield Properties, sponsors of the hospital’s 10K race.
Jack and his dad Stuart were picked up from their Burncross home and chauffeur driven to the Leeds United ground to join a crowd in excess of 25,000. Jack was given his very own Leeds United shirt, complete with his name on the back, had a namecheck on the tannoy system inside the ground and a welcome message displayed on the big screen..
Stuart said: “ Jack had an absolutely fantastic day and, of course the result helped!” It’s the first time we’ve been in an executive box and the day was one we’ll remember forever.”
Simon Athey, fundraiser at the hospital added: “ Jack was absolutely over the moon when we asked if he wanted to go as he is Wednesday mad! Jack and his dad have just raised £250 for us by doing a sponsored walk, so when Dransfield Properties offered to treat one of our patients, we thought Jack deserved to go, as a way of saying thanks for his efforts.”
The Sheffield Children’s Hospital 10K race and 2K family fun run take place at Graves Park on Sunday, April 15. For further information visit www.theos10K.com.
