Site Update - Works progressing well on the site of Gainsborough’s new town centre hotel and restaurant

25 January 2018

Works are progressing well on the site of Gainsborough’s new town centre hotel and restaurant.

The main contractors PDR Construction have made significant progress over recent weeks with the underground drainage and ducting now installed and the ground floor slab cast. This has allowed for works to commence on the building’s structural steel frame which when finished will allow for the Metsec frame to be installed – a high precision load bearing system which will provide an external weathered envelope to the buildings.

Once completed, the first-floor slab can then be cast allowing for the external cavity wall and weatherproofing works to commence over the course of the next few weeks.

The project is on schedule to be completed by Christmas 2018 and will bring a new 56-bedroom Travelodge Hotel and Ponti’s Italian Kitchen to the heart of Gainsborough.

The development is being built on the former Sun Inn site - The disused buildings which have been an eyesore on the site for many years were demolished earlier in the summer of 2017 and the site cleared.

Dransfield Properties and West Lindsey District Council are working in partnership to transform the Market Street, Church Street and North Street area of the town – the new hotel and restaurant are a key ingredient of the plans.
Work has also started on transforming the first of the retail units on Market Street to create a new independent quarter in Gainsborough.

Development surveyor at Dransfield Properties, David Hale, said: “We are really pleased with the progress being made on site and it’s great to see how the buildings are starting to take shape. Its great to be part of such an exciting regeneration project which we are confident everyone will be able to enjoy”.
