NHS Stoke on Trent Gets The Keys To Tunstall’s New Primary Care Centre

8 September 2011

The opening of a multi-million pound health centre in Tunstall moved a step closer this week.

NHS Stoke on Trent received the keys for the £4.5 million new build from the developer's Dransfield Properties Limited as work nears completion. Tunstall Primary Care Centre is due to open in less than a fortnight's time on Monday September 19th.

The centre has been built in Scotia Road and forms part of the second phase of the town's successful Alexandra Park development - which will bring a further £7 million investment and secure jobs in the town.

Miller Construction started work on this latest phase of the scheme in November 2010. As well as a brand new Primary Care Centre covering 22,174 sq ft over two floors it will also deliver a new 5,000 sq ft pharmacy.

The new facility will include the following services.

  • GP practices - Dr Bose and Dr Sonnathi (with a patient list of approximately 5,000 patients).
  • Dental Access Centre.
  • District Nursing, Health Visiting, School Nursing, and Specialist Nursing.
  • Paediatric Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, and Podiatry.
  • Dietetics, Continence Services, and Orthoptics.
  • Blood testing.

There will also be parking facilities for 241 cars, as well as landscaped grounds and a courtyard garden for patients and visitors with pedestrian and cycle access to the city's Greenway Network.

Staffordshire Cluster of PCT's Chief Executive Graham Urwin said: "We're delighted that work is now nearing completion. Tunstall will soon benefit from a modern health care facility which will fully support the delivery of high quality easily accessible services. Over the course of a year, the centre has the potential to see approximately 70,000 patients."

The first phase of the Alexandra Park development was completed two years ago and houses various retail outlets and a gym.

Retail Property Director at Dransfield Properties Limited, Andrew Malley, said:  "We have worked in Tunstall for nearly a decade and the completion of this latest phase is part of our delivery of a truly sustainable town centre. The new Primary Care Centre will deliver a wide range of health care facilities together on one site in the heart of Tunstall."
