7 February 2020

When the exciting new town centre bar and restaurant venture, The Forge Restaurant and Bar opens its doors in Gainsborough – it will be unveiling a stunning contemporary look with a new team ready to serve a great selection of food and drinks.

The new restaurant and bar can be found at the ground floor of Gainsborough’s Travelodge Hotel, just opposite the popular Marshall’s Yard shopping centre and will be fully open from the week commencing February 17th.

The couple behind the Cream Café at Marshall’s Yard, Michael and Mette Robinson, have taken on the new venture and have worked closely with the local Job Centre to recruit their talented new team.

The Job Centre team assisted with a two-week course ahead of the interview process to prepare potential candidates for entry into the hospitality industry.

Of the 12 people who attended the course 11 were taken on to work at The Forge – with a total of 22 new jobs created by the new venture.

Once the doors open The Forge will serve a delicious selection of British classics with a modern twist, with a menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Good quality and locally sourced food are at the core of the menu.

As well as delicious food there is also an extensive selection of craft beers, lagers, wines and cocktails to enjoy.

Mette said: “We are passionate about serving delicious, healthy and wholesome food which is sourced locally with good quality ingredients. We are delighted to have found the right kitchen and front of house team who all share that passion.

“The Job Centre team have been fantastic partners for us in helping with the recruitment process. We have had an incredible amount of interest and support from local people already, so watch this space for the launch of our website and the menu. We can’t wait to open the doors and find out what people think of The Forge.”

Graham Metcalfe, Partnership Manager at the Department for Work and Pensions, said: “We at Gainsborough JCP are very grateful to Mette and The Forge for the opportunity to work in partnership with them & Gainsborough College on the recruitment for their new opening.

“With their valued input, the pre-employment course was tailored to the Forge’s requirements and has delivered some particularly pleasing results for our customers.

“We wish The Forge and all their new recruits every success for their future and feel we have been able to establish a great relationship with a local employer. Rob Hall, the Employer Lead at Gainsborough JCP, is on standby to assist with any future recruitment needs for businesses in the progressive WLDC Skills Group area.”

The new ground floor restaurant and the Travelodge Hotel have been developed by Dransfield Properties working in partnership with West Lindsey District Council, the authority has supported the development through grant funding. The hotel opened in November 2018.

Dave Hale, Construction Director at Dransfield Properties, said: “The new restaurant and bar looks fantastic, we’d like to wish the team at The Forge all the very best with their new venue and are looking forward to trying out the great menu.”
