South Yorkshire’s largest independent firm of opticians, Martyn Kemp Opticians (MKO), has announced plans to transfer its north Sheffield practice into a brand new unit in the new Fox Valley development which is currently under construction.

The relocation of MKO’s Stocksbridge branch to the new Fox Valley development is key to the expansion plans of the firm which was founded in 1973 and has nine practices in South Yorkshire.

The new practice will cover 1,097 sq. ft. – giving customers and staff almost four times as much space as the existing premises on Johnson Street in Stocksbridge, which the company has occupied for 20 years.

Martyn Kemp Opticians prides itself on offering good value for money and a high level of customer service and the move means the company can expand and grow.

The practice will be open seven days a week and be headed by optometrist Andy Winnard who has been part of the MKO team for ten years.

Ron Dolman, MKO managing director, said: “We are delighted to be part of the new Fox Valley development as we had been looking for larger premises in the area for some time.

“This is the perfect location for the company’s new practice which is going to be a fantastic state of the art, modern facility with customer car parking right outside our front door. The move means we can look at expanding our team as well as offering additional services to our customers – including the potential for an in-house glazing facility.”

The £42 million Fox Valley scheme is on schedule to open in Spring 2016, the development is bringing a new town centre to this part of north Sheffield with retail units ranging from 215 sq. ft. to 20,000 sq. ft.

A 600 space customer car park, brand new offices and a housing development are also part of the master planned scheme.

Managing Director of Dransfield Properties Mark Dransfield, said: “Martyn Kemp Opticians is a fantastic local company and it’s great news that Fox Valley has been chosen as the location for this new north Sheffield practice.

“We are attracting leading regional and national businesses to this exciting scheme for north Sheffield which has great access to the population of South Yorkshire with the new access to the A616.”

The work on site is currently on schedule for a Spring 2016 opening and we look forward to making further announcements over the next few weeks.”

Dransfield Properties has received an investment of £8,111,040 from the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme 2007- 2013, which is managed by the Department for Communities and Local Government to bring forward the Fox Valley project.
