Stroud’s new speciality coffee shop set to open next week

Rough Hands Coffee will open on Tuesday 13th April at 8am, serving high quality, speciality coffee from multiple roasters from all over the world, a menu of vegan sweet treats and toasted sandwiches using produce from local, independent suppliers. 

The house espresso is provided by Fire & Flow, a specialty coffee roasters based in the heart of the Cotswolds and founded by Callum Parsons 2x UK Barista Championship finalist. The new coffee shop will also feature exciting guest coffees on a seasonal basis, bringing the best coffees available from around the globe right to the heart of Stroud. Including the likes of Roundhill based in Bath, Casa Espresso from Bradford and Red Bank from Coniston in the Lakes! 

A selection of sweet treats from Baked by Pen and Lara’s tarts both independent businesses, will be available at Rough Hands to perfectly compliment the coffee menu. 

The new coffee shop will also focus heavily on its green credentials, keeping the environment at the heart of everything they do – from using only eco-friendly and biodegradable disposable cups, recycled coffee bags and even launching a loyalty scheme to encourage customers to use their own reusable coffee cups. 

Rough Hands Coffee is the first business venture for local coffee expert, Samuel Humphris, who brings a decade of experience and expertise in order to provide an authentic and unique experience to Stroud’s coffee lovers. He plans to fully immerse Rough Hands in the local community, planning to host Home brewing classes and other events in the evenings once safe to do so 

Ideally situated in the main mall area close to the King Street entrance, Samuel has transformed the former FoneFixers unit as part of the ongoing major redevelopment project of the Five Valleys Centre. Rough Hands Coffee has been designed with a rustic, stripped back feel and will feature locally created artwork on the walls. 

Samuel said: “We have been working really hard on transforming the unit and sourcing the very best coffee and local produce and now I can’t wait to welcome the local community to Rough Hands Coffee next week. 

“Five Valleys is the perfect location to launch my first business venture and I am delighted to be a part of the ongoing regeneration of the town”. 

Five Valleys has undergone a major transformation over the last 12 months including an upgraded multi-storey car park with a living wall feature, a redesigned mall area, a brand-new indoor market and several high spec town centre apartments. 

The centre’s very own independent department store, Sandersons Boutique, is also preparing to open on Wednesday 14th April at 10am.

The next phase of the regeneration project will bring a new Medical Centre to the town, relocating Locking Hill Surgery and Stroud Valleys Family Practice to a new premises on King Street.
