School Visit to Sanderson Arcade Site

25 November 2008

Pupils from a Morpeth school have been treated to a special visit to the site of the town's Sanderson Arcade development as part of a classroom project.

More than 100 pupils from Newminster Middle School took part in a series of site visits this week to find out more about the construction of the £32 million development and look at exactly what is planned for the scheme.

The youngsters are all working on a classroom project to design an interactive information system for a shopping centre - so it was an ideal opportunity to visit the site of the new centre which is being built on their doorstep.

Site Manager John Blyth, from the contractors Mansell, took the pupils on a tour of the construction site and the visitors were also given a briefing about the plans for the development which is due to be completed early in 2010.

Amanda Holmes, of Dransfield Properties, said: "It was a pleasure to have the pupils from Newminster School visiting the site and we hope it's helped with their project. They had some great ideas and also quite a few suggestions about the sort of shops they would like to see at Sanderson Arcade!"

The new bus station being built as part of the development is due to be completed in February 2009 with the first retailers also opening for business in the early part of next year.
