Members of a charity cycle team who completed a tough five day challenge cycling through the Bavarian Alps, have met the team and presented their donation to one of the charities chosen to benefit from the fundraising push.

Some of the riders from the annual Tour of Europe Ride, organised by the award winning Barnsley based retail property developers Dransfield Properties Ltd, presented a cheque for £16,650  to Action Against Cancer during a visit to the Imperial Centre for Translational and Experimental Medicine in London.

The riders were given the opportunity to find out more about the work undertaken and view some of the projects funded through AAC.

The donation is part of the £50,000 raised by the 16-strong team of riders when they covered over 400 miles from Munich to Berlin in September last year. The team of riders, who come from across the UK, supported Action Against Cancer (AAC) and Bloodwise  and a third of the funds raised every year is also donated to other charities and organisations nominated by the riders through the Dransfield Foundation.

The team are now busy planning the 2016 ride which will take place this September and will see the team pick up last year’s finish point in Berlin to cycle another 380 plus miles through to their finish point in Denmark’s capital of Copenhagen.

The annual Tour of Europe ride was started in 2007 when the team covered a 200 mile route from London to Paris. In the last nine years the riders have covered more than 3,000 miles, cycled through six different countries and have raised more than £360,000 for charity.

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties Ltd, said: “It was fantastic to meet the team who are undertaking the vital research and work to progress the treatment and cure of cancers. Seeing what our fundraising efforts help to support and achieve makes us all realise that all those miles and high altitude climbs are all well worth the effort the riders put in and we are looking forward to getting on with the next leg of the tour in September.
"We would like to thank everyone who has sponsored and supported us since we started our Tour of Europe challenge – we really do appreciate every penny that is donated. “

Dr Paul Cathcart of Action Against Cancer said “Thank you so much to Team Dransfield and to all who have supported them in their Tour of Europe Ride.

“This is yet another amazing donation and they are making a fantastic contribution towards the ground breaking work which they were able to see first-hand on their recent visit to the lab”.
