The main construction work at the Holderness Gateway project in east Hull has been completed and the first businesses are opening up at the brand new retail development.

Local Hull firm Geo Houlton and Sons completed the £5 million project last month and the anchor tenant B&M Stores has this week started fit out on the company’s new 25,000 store ready for an October opening.

Other companies to join the line up in the next few weeks include Subway and The Hull Animal Welfare Trust will open the doors to its new east Hull premises next week.

Fitness experts Bulk Garage Nutrition have already opened at the centre – the Holderness Road business is the company’s second store in Hull and stocks a wide range of high protein meat and products. A café and an American diner are also opening at the centre in the next few weeks.

The development has been brought forward by the Barnsley based retail specialists Dransfield Properties Ltd and has transformed a 1.8 acre site at the junction of Holderness Road and Mount Pleasant.

Two empty shops fronting Holderness Road have also been refurbished and brought back into use as part of the overall project and the scheme is creating around 50 new jobs in the area.

The name Holderness Gateway was chosen by the children of the nearby Craven Primary School in a completion organised by the development team earlier in the summer.

Development surveyor at Dransfield Properties, Dave Hale, said: “It is great to see the fit out work starting on the largest of the units this week and the signage will also be going up on site over the next few days.

“We look forward to welcoming B&M and of course all the new businesses to the Holderness Gateway over the next few weeks.”

As well as bringing an attractive new retail development to this part of Holderness Road the scheme includes a new district centre car park with around 90 parking spaces.
