Independent department store chain reports record sales

5 January 2023

Despite a cost-of-living crisis, freezing weather conditions and numerous postal strikes, Sandersons Boutique has had a record-breaking sales period this festive season.

The last full week of Christmas shopping (w/c 19th December) saw record breaking figures with a 14.86% increase in like for like sales against the same week in 2021.

The independent department store has seen retail sales rocket from £564k in 2016 to £5.98m in 2022, bucking the trend that retail is suffering.

A spectacular Christmas shopping period resulted in sales being up 4.13% on the previous year across the company’s three bricks and mortar stores, while online sales grew by 25.28% for the same period.

Founded in North Sheffield in 2016, the empire has quickly grown to see the opening of two new stores, one in Stroud, the Cotswolds, the other in Morpeth, Northumberland, proving there is still very much an appetite for shopping luxury brands in the boutique store setting.

Sandersons Boutique Co-Founder and Director, Mark Dransfield DL, said: “We are enjoying record sales, both within our high street stores and online.

“Our three stores are moving from strength to strength growing and supporting a strong and loyal customer base who see the value in our exclusive range of brands.”

Sandersons Boutique prides itself on its fantastic customer service as well as a growing list of premium brands which are hard to find outside of London. Throughout 2022 the stores have welcomed Stand Studio, Grace & Mila, Pretty Lavish, FRNCH and Bella Dahl to women’s wear with RAINS added to the menswear collection.

Sandersons has built a reputation for its premium fragrances and luxury London fragrance, Miller Harris, was added to the collection last year as well as the Boutique introducing its very own bespoke oud experience for customers to discover their ultimate fragrance.

A department store first, Sandersons has also launched their own luxury fragrances, One and Two - an exciting addition to their extensive and unique range.

Last year Sandersons Boutique invested in its E-commerce side of the business in Stroud which has also led to significant growth in sales.

Customer service is at the core of Sandersons. Mark Dransfield said: “As people consider their spending more so than ever our increased footfall and sales is testament to our hard-working team providing exceptional customer service.”
