Charity cycle team donates £10,000 to key causes

2 January 2023

The team of charity cyclists from South Yorkshire retail property company, Dransfield Properties, raised an amazing £47,000 after completing the final leg of a 14-year Tour of Europe last September.

The 335-mile final leg saw the 21 strong team pedal through some gruelling weather conditions from Tyne to Thames cycling from Newcastle to London’s Tower Bridge, completing their momentous journey through 14 European countries.

The annual ride is headed by Managing Director of Dransfield Properties and the independent chain of department stores, Sandersons Boutique, Mark Dransfield DL, who commented: “I’d like to thank everyone who has continued to support our charity efforts over the years helping us make a real difference to struggling families and to assist some fantastic causes with their front line support.”

The money raised from this year’s efforts is being used by the Dransfield Foundation to support children with life limiting illnesses and their families. Donations of £5,000 have also been made to Action Against Cancer and St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield.

Charley Cranmer, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Action Against Cancer, said: “It is significant support such as this that will make a real and lasting difference to patients with cancer. With your help we can aim high, working on cutting edge research to try and improve diagnostics and treatments to change the lives of millions of patients around the world.

“The latest cheque received brings the total raised by Team Dransfield for Action Against Cancer to over £100,000 since 2014! This is an incredible amount.”

Since the first charity ride in 2007 from London to Paris, the team have covered more than 5,000 miles across 14 countries covering punishing routes through Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Portofino, Rome, Dubrovnik, Trieste, Munich, Berlin, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stavanger, Aberdeen, Newcastle and back to London raising an incredible £593,000.

Their fundraising endeavours over the years have helped support medical research and purchase vital healthcare equipment for Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, Action Against Cancer and Bloodwise, as well as lots of local initiatives through the Dransfield Foundation.

Anna Kirk, Senior Fundraising Manager, said: “We have been totally overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and commitment of the Dransfield team.

“Their challenge for this year was a big one and once again it yielded a truly outstanding result.

“They can be assured that their efforts are appreciated by everybody at St Luke’s and that the money they have raised will make a massive difference to all our patients and their families”.

The completion of the ride in 2022 coincided with Dransfield Properties’ 30th year in business. The award-winning company owns and manages successful retail, leisure and mixed-use centres across the UK.
