Hundreds of shoppers turn out to welcome their new Aldi store in Slaithwaite

The new Aldi store in Slaithwaite opened this morning to a queue of more than 300 shoppers who were keen to be the first through the doors.

The new 12,100 sq. ft. store has been built on the site of the former Colne Mills in Britannia Road, Slaithwaite, creating 40 new jobs in the town.

The doors opened at 8am this morning and the first 100 customers were given a special  ‘golden ticket’ with the chance to win vouchers and other prizes.

The new store, developed by Dransfield Properties Ltd and built by Hull based PDR Construction, has taken nine months to build and has 90 car parking spaces. It has been built in natural stone and corten steel.

The store was officially opened with a ribbon cutting by children from the Slaithwaite Junior and Infants School joined by the store manager Simon Dean.

He said: “Aldi would like to thank everyone for their patience and support over the last nine months and we hope that customers enjoy their new Aldi store. We look forward to continuing our engagement with the local community in the future.”
