Grimethorpe band hits the right note with a new sponsorship deal

South Yorkshire based Dransfield Properties Ltd has been announced as the new main sponsor of the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band.

The company has agreed to sponsor the band for the next five years, helping to secure its position as one of the country’s most famous brass bands.

The new sponsorship agreement was announced at a concert held in Barnsley on Monday April 14th in aid of the Mayor of Barnsley’s Charity.

Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band was founded in 1917 and has gone on to receive national and international acclaim, most notably through its involvement with the film Brassed Off – where the Grimethorpe musicians provided the soundtrack as well as appearing as extras in the film.

The band has four times been named as Great Britain National Champion and 11 times as Yorkshire Champion - but despite its outstanding musical achievements its financial future has been less certain in recent years.

Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “We are delighted and extremely proud to be supporting the Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band.

"We are a local company and great admirers of the band, not just for their excellent achievements as fine musicians but also for the work they do in their own community in inspiring young people to get involved with music.

"We are pleased therefore to be able to play our part in supporting that work and look forward to a long association with the band.”

Band Chairman Peter Haigh said: “We are highly delighted to have Dransfield Properties sponsoring the band. It is not easy in today’s climate to get financial backing and this support certainly goes a good way to securing the band’s future.”
