Whitefield’s new Roma Restaurant opens

12 February 2008

Whitefield’s brand new Roma Restaurant opened this week, leaving the original premises free to be demolished as part of the multi-million pound Whitefield district centre redevelopment scheme by Morrisons.

The Italian restaurant has been relocated from its original home on Bury New Road to a purpose built two storey state-of-the-art facility on the corner of Elms Road.  Owners Rocco Fulchini and Guiseppe Taurasi are delighted with their new premises.

Rocco said: “This is a very exciting time for the team at Roma and we can’t wait for our customers to come along and enjoy a meal in our brand new restaurant.  The relocation has given us the opportunity to upgrade our facilities and we think all our customers will be delighted with the result.”

The Whitefield redevelopment scheme will also deliver an 80,000 sq ft Morrisons supermarket with 455 parking spaces, create 350 jobs and deliver highway improvements.

Construction of the supermarket began in July last year and work has been carefully phased to minimise disruption to Roma.  Now Rocco and Guiseppe have moved into their new premises, Morrisons will demolish the former restaurant and continue the construction of their store which will be complete in August, and open for trade in September.

The Whitefield district centre redevelopment, managed for Morrisons by Dransfield Properties has been one of the company’s most complex to date. It has involved the acquisition of 30 different property interests, the relocation of residents, the construction of new housing to re house some residents and demolition of a listed building – the Church Inn public house.

Mark Dransfield, managing director of Dransfield Properties said: “I wish Rocco every success and I look forward to being one of the first to eat in his fantastic new restaurant!  The redevelopment of Whitefield district centre is almost complete and the area will soon have a renewed vitality which will benefit everyone in the local community.”
