Relocation heralds a new start for Humber Social Club!

6 January 2010

Plans for a new retail development on Hull’s Holderness Road have taken a step forward with the relocation of a number of businesses – including The Humber Social Club.

The club has now been relocated by the developers Mt Pleasant Urban Regeneration Ltd to the newly refurbished Royal Hotel on nearby New Bridge Road.

The move has given the club a new lease of life and much more flexible space. Founded in the 1960s on Stoneferry Road in Hull the club catered for employees of Humber Fertilisers, it later moved to the site on Holderness Road before relocating just before Christmas to New Bridge Road.

The move has transformed the former Royal Hotel which had stood empty for almost two years – it’s now been given a £200,000 facelift to accommodate the new Humber Social Club.

And Hull East MP John Prescott will officially open the new club on Friday January 8th at 12.30pm.

Managing Director of Mt Pleasant Urban Regeneration Ltd, Mark Dransfield, said: “Everyone is very pleased with the new premises and we are delighted that John Prescott is officially opening the new club. As well as relocating the club we have brought an empty building back into use and we wish the members many happy years in their new premises.”

Gerald Moxon, from The Humber Social Club said: “We have had a very good relationship with the developers from day one and we are really pleased with the new premises.”

The Sheffield based architects AC Liani, who specialise in pubs, clubs and hotels, have managed the 12 week refurbishment of the new club premises.

Stuart Young of AC Liani said: “This is a great project to be involved with, The Humber Social Club members have much more flexible space now and we hope the club goes from strength to strength in its new home.”

35 35 35 Taxis are also relocating later this month from 165 Holderness Road to a former doctor’s surgery at 434 Holderness Road. The developers are working with all businesses affected by the development.

Plans are to be submitted later this year for the proposed development which neighbours The Mount Retail Park – the development completed in 2003 by Dransfield Properties Ltd, one of the development partners in Mt Pleasant Urban Regeneration Ltd
