Move for Morpeth Garage Gives Business Room to Expand !

4 April 2011

Family run garage T Thompson and Sons has exciting new plans to expand when they relocate to new premises in Morpeth later this year as part of the new food store development plans.

The company, which is celebrating 50 years of trading in the town, is relocating as part of the Dransfield Properties plans to develop a food store on the Low Stanners site in Morpeth.

The new development plans take in the Thompson garage site and the business will now be relocated to new premises in a former car showroom and workshop on Coopies Lane in Morpeth.

Managing Director Tony Thompson says the move will enable the company to expand and offer much more space and new services to its growing number of customers.

Tony’s parents started the business in 1961 – it has been at Low Stanners for the last 40 but the company had been looking to relocate.

Three new members of staff are now being taken on at the new garage and around £100,000 is being invested in equipment.

As well as more staff the move means the company can have a bigger reception area, four new lifts, taking the total to seven, and a new MOT Test Lane. There will also be a courtesy shuttle service taking customers into town

Tony said: “We have wanted to expand for years so this is a great opportunity for us, the site is nearly double what we have now and I am delighted with the new premises and really looking forward to moving in.

“We know a lot of our customers like popping in to town while we are working on their vehicle so we’ve decided to have a courtesy minibus from the new garage to let them come in and do some shopping.”

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties Ltd, said: “We are delighted that the company’s new premises will help the business to expand and grow and take on new members of staff. "

The Thompsons garage site is part of the new 50,000 sq ft food store development in the town which was granted outline planning permission last year.

The scheme will also deliver 283 new short stay car parking spaces as well as 296 long stay spaces, new footpaths and an attractive landscaping scheme.
