Morpeth’s new Sanderson Arcade development on schedule for November opening

19 August 2009

The £32 million Sanderson Arcade development in Morpeth is on track for an Autumn opening – and poised to push the town up the ranking as a North East shopping destination.

Work has now started on fitting out the brand new 32,000 sq ft Marks and Spencer store at the town centre development which is due to open this November.

The new department store will include an enlarged food hall and other departments including ladies wear, mens wear, beauty, homewares and a first floor Café Revive which will overlook a central piazza.

The November opening will also see a host of other retailers who are opening in Morpeth for the first time.

They include: Body Shop, Lakeland, New Look, Waterstones, Laura Ashley, Fat Face and Crew Clothing.

The master planned development has been designed with period architecture inspired by the fashionable Burlington Arcade in London. Prestigious design coupled with quality retailers will confirm Morpeth’s pedigree as a shopping destination.

Retail Property Director at Dransfield Properties Andrew Malley, said: “The construction is now well advanced with large sections now virtually complete and this provides a clear indication of the quality of the trading environment that it will produce.

“Now the arcade is nearing completion we are releasing to the market our final four units hoping to attract local retailers who can match the calibre of the multiple retailers. Smaller companies obviously prefer to see something tangible before committing to a scheme and we are now at the stage where people can appreciate the quality of the development we are delivering at Sanderson Arcade.

“We are already working with a number of local retailers to ensure that the retail offer is at a level to secure Morpeth’s position as a quality shopping destination.”

Sanderson Arcade is being delivered by Morpeth II – the development partnership of Yorkshire based Dransfield Properties and Ethel Austin Properties. Regional contractor Mansell’s are currently on schedule for the centre to be completed by mid November.
