Morpeth's new development attracts more big name retailers!

TWO more national retailers have signed up to open stores at Morpeth’s Sanderson Arcade when the new £32 million town centre redevelopment is completed.
Marks & Spencer has already been named as the anchor tenant for the scheme - mobile phone shop O2 and coffee chain Starbucks are now the latest stores to agree terms to open stores at the prestigious new development in the North East market town.
Sanderson Arcade is poised to deliver a new commercial heart to Morpeth in Northumberland. With 85,000 sq ft of new purpose built retail space the scheme includes a remodeled and elegantly designed arcade as well as a landscaped piazza and an extension to the existing Morrisons store.
The plans also include a brand new town centre bus interchange, 17,000 sq ft of office space and further car parking.
The development has been brought forward by the development partnership of South Yorkshire based Dransfield Properties Ltd and Ethel Austin Properties Ltd. The redevelopment site takes in the existing run down Sandersons Arcade and the Back Riggs Shopping Centre which are in need of investment.
O2 will take a 1,000sq ft unit and Starbucks are taking 1,700sq ft. Last month Marks and Spencers announced they would be the anchor tenants with a new 31,500sq ft store over two floors.
A new long stay car park has already been constructed and surrounding highways improvements made.
Andrew Malley, Retail Property Director at Dransfield Properties, said: “We are delighted to be announcing two more retailers for Sandersons Arcade, we have only just started marketing the site so to have O2 and Starbucks taking units here is great news.
“We are in negotiations with several other major high street retailers who are interested in the development. A great deal of thought has gone into the style and architecture of our development and we are committed to delivering a really high quality scheme here.”
The development has been drawn up in conjunction with urban design specialists and English Heritage to retain historical features and ensure the new buildings are in keeping with Morpeth's character.
