Construction on the next phase of the Jasper Square development in Tunstall is now well underway after Michael Tappin, leader of the labour group at Stoke City Council officiated at a soil cutting ceremony. This phase of the development will deliver a 45,000 sq ft retail, health and fitness centre for JJB, a unit for Carphone Warehouse and a 1000 sq ft retail unit.
On performing the ceremony, Michael Tappin said, “It has given me great pleasure to be here today to mark the start of works on this phase of a development which I believe will be of huge benefit to the people of Tunstall. Creating a total of 270 for the area, this regeneration scheme is a light on the horizon for the town and I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work and commitment in putting these plans together and in delivering a scheme that we will be a huge success for Tunstall”.
A phased approach has been adopted by developers, Dransfield Properties Ltd, for the extension to Jasper Square which will eventually include facilities for Stoke Primary Care Trust and 240 car parking spaces.
To help ease local traffic congestion, this phase of the development will also deliver high improvement works to the Boulevard Junction off Scotia Road. The footpath along Butterfield Place will be widened and a covered walkway constructed leading into Jasper Square which will help to improve pedestrian linkages and access.
Public realm will be a major feature of this phase with the Greenway area receiving a complete upgrade and a public art feature. It is expected that this phase will take approximately 50 weeks to complete.
Andrew Malley, Retail Property Director for Dransfield Properties said, “We are delighted that Michael has been able to officiate today and mark this important milestone. I would like to give special thanks to all local stakeholders, councillors and officers at Stoke City Council for the tremendous support in helping us bring this
development forward.
