Meet the award-winning butcher taking on Selby town centre store

Local butcher Carl Webster has opened a new store at Selby’s Market Cross Shopping Centre – bringing his award-winning sausage recipe, mouthwatering pies and great cuts of meat to local shoppers.

Carl has more than 30 years’ experience in the trade and is setting up his own business for the first time, taking on the former Selby Butchers unit at the centre which can be found near to Holland and Barrett and EE at Market Cross.

Called Websters Family Butchers the new shop opened at the weekend and stocks Carl’s award-winning recipe sausages as well as a full range of meats and pies – including Carl’s secret recipe Pork Pie which has also been an award winner in local competitions.

Carl trained in butchery at Thomas Danby College in Leeds and has worked for companies across the region including Riverside Butchers. He’s now setting out on his own venture for the first time with an emphasis on good quality, locally sourced meat.

Carl’s wife Caroline as well as son and daughters George, Lilly and Beth will also be helping in the shop making it a real family business.

Carl said: “I’m really pleased to be using my years of experience in the industry to open my own traditional family butcher. The welcome we’ve already had from local people has been incredible and I’m really pleased to be opening my own business here in Selby and being part of the community at Market Cross.”

Melissa Clement from the Market Cross management team, said: “We’re really pleased that Carl and his team are taking on the butcher’s shop at Market Cross, they’re a great family run local business, and we’re delighted to welcome them to the centre.

“We’re really proud of the traditional independent line up we have here at Market Cross.”

As well as the butcher Market Cross is home to Coopers Grocers, Cobblers Last and a host of other local independent retailers as well as national names including Home Bargains, The Works and Vodafone.

Websters Family Butchers is open Tuesday to Saturday 8am to 4pm.
