B&M, the anchor store at east Hull’s new £5 million Holderness Gateway development has opened its doors to shoppers for the first time this morning. (Friday October 9th).

The Lord Mayor of Hull and Admiral of the Humber, Councillor Anita Harrison, was joined by pupils from Craven Primary Academy School at a special ribbon cutting ceremony held to mark the opening.

The school pupils chose the name for the new development through a competition organised by Holderness Gateway developers Dransfield Properties Ltd.

The new 25,000 sq. ft. B&M store with garden centre has created 50 new jobs in the area. Other stores who have already joined the line-up at Holderness Gateway include Subway, Bulk Garage and The Hull Animal Welfare Trust, there is also a new 90 space car park.

Craven Primary Academy pupils Olivier Bruch and Kyle Acey won a competition earlier this year to name the new Holderness Gateway development, they were joined at the ribbon cutting by the school’s Head Girl and Head Boy; Alexandra Smith and Ryan Barnett-Broxham.  The school is also linking with the new store to organise bag fundraising bag packing sessions.

Sue Smith, Store Manager at B&M Hull Holderness Road said: “We are really proud to be creating another 50 jobs across Hull this year and continuing to play our part in the local community.”

Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber Councillor Anita Harrison, said: “We are delighted that this scheme has finally to come to fruition and the development demonstrates the confidence investors are having in our city by creating a wealth of job opportunities for our local workforce.

“Revitalising the main arterial routes of the city is a key priority for the council and I am pleased that Holderness Road will benefit from an increased footfall of visitors who are looking for an out-of-town shopping experience.”

“It is truly fantastic to see all the hard-work that Dransfield Properties and the council’s regeneration team have put into this multi-million pound development and we wish all the new retailers every bit of success.”

Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “"We have worked closely with Hull City Council to deliver the Holderness Gateway project and it is testament to the team work and determination of everyone involved that this long awaited project is now completed. It’s fantastic to see the new stores opening and creating new jobs in the area.”

Local Hull firm Geo Houlton and Sons was the main contractor on the development and work started in December 2014.

Customers at the new B&M store can expect a wide variety of branded and own label products from the new store on Holderness Road including groceries and toiletries as well as an extensive non-food section including toys, home, electrical and seasonal ranges.
