A team of charity cyclists from the Barnsley based firm Dransfield Properties Ltd have completed a 431 mile leg-aching cycle challenge, riding from Munich to Berlin.
The 15 strong team covered the 431 mile route in five days arriving in the German capital yesterday afternoon (Sunday) after a challenging ride which they’re hoping will have raised £50,000 for charity.
The Munich to Berlin ride is the 9th leg of the annual Tour of Europe charity cycle challenge which the award winning property firm organises every year. Since starting out from London and cycling to Paris in 2007 the riders have covered more than 3,000 miles and raised more than £350,000 for charity.
The team, nicknamed the MAMILS started out from Munich last Wednesday - where last year’s ride finished. They’re now planning next year’s route which will start in Berlin in 2016. Since 2007 the riders have cycled to Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Portofino, Rome, Dubrovnik, Trieste and Munich, as well as this year’s finish point of Berlin.
The South Yorkshire riders were joined by team members from Lincolnshire, Hull, Merseyside and London as well as by the the pro-cyclist and World Championship Silver Medallist, Tony Gibb who heads up the new Full Gas Bikes concept opening at Dransfield Properties’ Fox Valley development which is due to open in Spring 2016.
Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “It’s been a really challenging and tough ride this year – the longest we’ve ever attempted in terms of mileage - but everyone has really pulled together and it was a fantastic feeling to ride into Berlin yesterday afternoon.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has supported and sponsored the team, it is that support which has really kept us going and given us the determination to raise as much money as possible for the charities we are supporting.”
The team are raising money for Action Against Cancer, Bloodwise and The Dransfield Foundation – a Trust established to help support local causes and community projects and initiatives which will be suggested by each member of the team.
The money donated to Bloodwise will help support the Trial Acceleration Programme and at Action Against Cancer it is helping to support the ground breaking research programme headed up by Professor Justin Stebbings in London. The research focusses on developing new diagnostics and treatments to improve the survival prospects and the quality of life for millions of cancer sufferers worldwide.
