Council planners unanimously back new scheme for east Hull

7 April 2014

New plans to deliver an attractive retail development on a run-down site in east Hull have been unanimously approved by Hull City Council’s planning committee.

The new development is in a key location at the corner of Mount Pleasant and Holderness Road and has been carefully designed to fit in with the existing street scene and link with the wider district centre.

On Wednesday (April 2nd) the planning committee backed the plans for four new retail units and a 90 space car park and welcomed the investment in this part of the city.

The new development will neighbour The Mount Retail Park which was also developed by Dransfield Properties Ltd and opened in 2003, since that time there has been an aspiration for further development in the area.

The new development will create around 50 new jobs and work is expected to start on site this summer.

Two existing retail units which are currently empty, fronting Holderness Road, will be re-furbished and brought back into use as part of the overall project.

The proposals will also deliver:

• A new 25,000 sq. ft. store
• Further retail units of 2,000sqft, 1,500sqft and 1,000sqft
• District centre car park with approx. 90 spaces

Head of Communications at Dransfield Properties, Amanda Holmes, said: “We are delighting that our plans for the Holderness Road and Mount Pleasant site have been unanimously supported by the city council and we look forward to starting work on the development.

"We have had a great deal of local support for the scheme and I’m sure many people in the area will be pleased to see this area being developed and welcome the new shops and facilities.”
