City Planners Approve Development for Key Site in Hull !
14 May 2011
Plans have been approved for a new £30 million retail development on a key gateway site at Mount Pleasant in east Hull.
The City Council's Planning Committee unanimously backed the outline application which will breath new life into a run down, 11 acre site at the corner of Holderness Road and Mount Pleasant as well as bringing 400 new jobs to the area.
Councillors welcomed the new investment and employment and the fact that businesses within the development site had been relocated locally - securing more than 300 jobs and ensuring that firms can thrive and grow.
The scheme is being delivered by the Mount Pleasant Urban Regeneration Company, a joint venture between ispace and Barnsley based Dransfield Properties Ltd who completed the Mount Retail Park neighbouring the development site in 2003.
Once completed the new development will deliver:
- A foodstore covering 92,500 sq ft
- 600 car parking spaces
- A petrol filling station
- A range of smaller retail units
Businesses which have already been relocated include 353535 Taxis and the Humber Social Club which opened in its new premises at the former Royal Hotel on New Bridge Road in January 2010, bringing a disused public house back into use.
Director of Mount Pleasant Urban Regeneration and Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield said: “There has been a great deal of support for our development plans for Mount Pleasant/Holderness Road and this is a major step forward in delivering the scheme.
"Our company has worked on a number of developments in this part of Hull for many years, there has long been an aspiration to bring forward a further high quality development on this key site."
