B&M Stores has been announced as the anchor tenant for a brand new retail development in east Hull where work is due to get started later in the summer.
The company is taking a 25,000 sq ft store and garden centre on the development being brought forward by Yorkshire based developer Dransfield Properties Ltd. The plans were unanimously approved by Hull City Council in April.
The development is on a key site at Mount Pleasant / Holderness Road and has been designed to fit in with the existing street scene and district centre.
The new development will create around 50 new jobs and work is expected to start on site later this summer.
Two existing retail units which are currently empty, fronting Holderness Road, will be re-furbished and brought back into use as part of the overall project which will includes;
• A new 25,000 sq. ft. B&M store
• Further retail units of 2,000sqft, 1,500sqft and 1,000sqft
• A district centre car park with approx. 90 spaces
B&M was formed in 1978 and is now one of the leading variety retailers in the UK. The company has more than 370 stores across the UK.
Head of Communications at Dransfield Properties, Amanda Holmes, said: “We are delighted that B&M will be the anchor tenant on our Holderness Road development, we are confident that the new store will be a great addition to the area and we look forward to starting work later in the summer.
"We have had a great deal of local support for the development of this site and we hope people will be pleased to see things moving on site in the near future.”
