New Iceland store prepares for opening at Tunstall’s Alexandra Park

6 March 2014

Iceland opens the doors to its brand new store at Alexandra Park in Tunstall next week – the first store in this final phase of the development to open for business.

The company, one of the country’s fastest growing food retailers, is taking a 6,135 sq. ft. unit at the centre which is due to open to shoppers on the morning of Tuesday March 11th.

Iceland has taken a 15 year lease on the new unit at Alexandra Park and the new store is creating 20 new jobs in the area – Iceland was recently ranked as Britain’s Best Big Company to Work For in the 2014 Sunday Times awards, reclaiming the title which was first won in 2012.

The five new retail units were completed earlier this year – sitting alongside the Boots Pharmacy and Primary Care Centre which opened in September 2011.

Iceland’s opening on Tuesday will be followed by Card Factory, due to open for business on Saturday (March 15th) and Home Bargains who will open the company’s brand new Alexandra Park store towards the end of April. Two further units are currently being marketed.

The development is owned and managed by Barnsley based Dransfield Properties Ltd. It has been built around a central car park with good links to the town centre and is also home to the impressive Shard sculpture, installed in 2009 and created by the award winning sculptor Robert Erskine.

Retail Property Director at Dransfield Properties, Andrew Malley, said: “We are delighted that work is now completed on this final phase at Alexandra Park and our new tenants are ready to open for business.

"We are confident that this is a great location for Iceland and we’re really pleased to be welcoming the company to the centre – we look forward to Card Factory and Home Bargains opening in the coming weeks and making further announcements about the two smaller units.”

Staff at the new store will cut a ribbon to mark the opening on Tuesday March 11th at 9am.
