Plans To Build Retirement Apartments In Penistone Re-submitted

 

 

A second application to develop 52 residential apartments – aimed at the over 55s and considered to be vital for the town’s regeneration – has been submitted to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

The apartments, to be situated on St Mary’s Street, are an integral element of the £15 million regeneration scheme that has been proposed for Penistone Town Centre.

Barnsley based property developer, Dransfield Properties Ltd, which is funding the town centre regeneration scheme, consulted closely with local stakeholder groups and with English Heritage before drawing up the revised plans. The apartments are a joint venture between Dransfield Properties and Golden Living, a company that specialises in the provision of warden controlled retirement apartments.

Concerns were expressed by Barnsley MBC and Penistone Town Council about the height of the apartment buildings. Dransfield and Golden Living have now come forward with revised plans which reduce the height of the buildings by 3.15 metres (10 feet) in height in a bid to secure the Council’s support.

“We have carefully considered the council’s reasons for refusal and we believe that we have now significantly improved scheme by reviewing the height of the structures and also the detailing of the elevations to ensure that we create an attractive gateway feature to Penistone, said Mark Dransfield, managing director of Dransfield Properties.

“We are aware that the proposed apartments have triggered much enthusiastic interest in the town and over 80 names have already been registered.

“We hope that we have properly addressed the Council’s concerns and we believe that the latest proposal represents a significant improvement in design.

“The approval of the revised application is vital in order to complete the full town centre regeneration and it is important that the council is made aware of public support for the scheme”, added Mark.
