Travel agent exchanges contracts at Marshalls Yard

Independent travel specialists Ilkeston Co-op Travel have exchanged contracts on a unit at Marshalls Yard, the £37 million development in Gainsborough which will begin construction in January 2006.

The company has over 40 branches across South Yorkshire and the East Midlands and will open a new store in the development’s Britannia building which is being sympathetically restored to create a mix of high street shops with office space above. 

They join other leading retailers on Marshalls Yard including JJB Health and Fitness, Brantano, Allied Carpets, Specsavers, Carphone Warehouse, Greggs and Stringers hair salon.

The eight-acre development is being brought forward by a development partnership of Dransfield Properties and Prospect Estates.  Highway works for the scheme are well under way and construction will begin in the New Year.

Marshalls Yard will create around 1250 new jobs in the town, transforming the old factory site into an attractive mixed use scheme which has 135,000 sq ft of retail space, along with leisure space, 37 city living style apartments, a piazza and fountain feature, three restaurants and office accommodation.

Terms have been agreed on 70 per cent of the retail space, as retailers recognise the town’s potential.  The newly opened Robin Hood airport at Doncaster, and the housing markets of surrounding areas have dramatically increased the desirability of Gainsborough as a place to live and over 1,000 homes are currently under construction with easy reach of Marshalls Yard.

Leeds based agents Rees Denton are marketing the scheme.
