Archbishop to visit Fox Valley development

7 September 2015

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu is to visit the Fox Valley development in north Sheffield, where he will bless local community groups, businesses and churches as part of a 10am open-air Community Celebration.  Music will be provided by Deepcar Brass Band and the Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir.

The visit forms part of a four-day historic ‘Crossroads’ mission across Sheffield Diocese involving 21 Bishops of the Church of England.  Hundreds of events will take place as part of the Crossroads Mission across the region in schools, pubs, universities, colleges, shopping centres, community centres, cafes and churches.

Revd Hilda Isaacson said: “The Archbishop’s visit to Stocksbridge is very timely for the churches as well as the community.  Cornerstone (Bolsterstone St Mary with the Christian Centre, Deepcar St John and Stocksbridge St Matthias) is the Church of England part of the ecumenical Churches Together in Stocksbridge and District.

"We’ve opted for an outdoor service at the new Fox Valley development which gives us a great welcoming space for all the community to come together.  Rain or shine, we’re determined to spread the Good News of the Gospels”.
The £50 million Fox Valley development is being delivered by Dransfield Properties Ltd and on schedule for completion in Spring 2016.

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties Ltd, said: “Everyone involved with the development is extremely honoured to welcome the Archbishop to the site at this stage in the construction when most of the buildings really are beginning to take shape. As a local company we’re proud to be a part of the community here in Stocksbridge and to be delivering this town centre regeneration scheme.”

The service will be held around the new office buildings which have just been completed at Fox Valley.

Mick Hood, Human Resources Director at Tata Steel, said: “The visit to Stocksbridge by the Archbishop will mean a lot to our employees and the community. I know there is a great deal of interest in the Fox Valley development, on what was once part of the steelworks, and this day of celebration will help to reinforce how proud the community is of both its history and its future.”

Following the Community Celebration at Fox Valley, the Archbishop will meet with people from the community before joining the public finale event in All Saints Square, Rotherham.   For more details on the Crossroads Mission, please visit:  http://www.sheffield.anglican.org/crossroads-mission
