11 February 2015

Date: Thursday 12th February
Time: 12pm
Event: Time Capsule Dedication and balloon release to launch the new Fox Valley development
Venue: Fox Valley site, off Manchester Road, Stocksbridge S36 2JA

A major milestone in the delivery of a new town centre development in north Sheffield is being celebrated this week.

The £42 million Fox Valley scheme will be completed ready for a Spring 2016 opening – over the last few weeks the main contractors Henry Boot Construction have started work on the main retail and office buildings on the 28 acre former steelworks site.

And this milestone in the town centre project is being marked on Thursday February 12th at 12pm when a special time capsule will be buried on site.

The pupils of Stocksbridge Junior School have been gathering information about life in Stocksbridge as well as about the history of the site to fill a special capsule which will be buried on site.

Hundreds of balloons will also be released from the heart of the site to celebrate this major investment which will bring much needed new retail space as well as brand new office accommodation and 114 executive homes.
It’s estimated that the development will bring up to 900 new jobs to the area.

The development is being delivered by the Barnsley based retail property company Dransfield Properties Ltd, the company has won a number of high profile industry awards for developments in other parts of the country for its town and district centre schemes.

The first phase of the project has delivered a new roundabout on the A616 Sheffield to Manchester road as well as a new warehouse facility for Tata Speciality Steel to allow the relocation of the former steel stockyard from the development site.

A former disused steelworks building – once the works canteen – has also undergone a major refurbishment project to be brought back into use and work has also started on a second building which is being given a new lease of life.

But this week’s event marks the start of the main construction work on the land where the new shopping centre and high spec offices are being built.

Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “It’s great for everyone involved in the project to see the development reach this stage, a great deal of hard work had gone into getting to this point and to see that come to fruition and starting to take shape is fantastic.

“This is a really important scheme for this part of north Sheffield; we are not only bringing jobs and investment but effectively a new town centre in a part of the city which really has been underserved in terms of its retail offer.”

Councillor Leigh Bramall, Cabinet Member for Business, Skills and Leisure at Sheffield City Council, said: “It is fantastic to see this important milestone marked for a development that will bring hundreds of new jobs to the north of Sheffield.

“I look forward to seeing the development take shape and, ultimately, new homes, offices and retail outlets opening up on this key site.”
