Contractors prepare to start main construction work at Fox Valley

29 October 2014

Work on the new Fox Valley development in  north Sheffield is on schedule and the contractors Henry Boot will be moving on to the main site to start construction work on the brand new office and retail scheme early in the New Year.

The first phase of the ambitious £42 million development is to build a new warehouse for Tata Speciality Steel with a new road and rail link - that work is now almost completed ready for the steel, which is currently stored on the main retail site, to be relocated.

On the housing site work is continuing on the groundworks ready for the housing developer Stonebridge Homes to start work next year.

The roof works on the iconic steel building (pictured), which was previously the steelworks canteen, have now been completed and the scaffolding is coming down on that part of the site – the building’s façade has been cleaned and broken glass panes been replaced. Internal works are now been carried out.

The highway works on the A616 Stocksbridge bypass have now been completed by CR Reynolds and work is now starting on the roads around the new retail and office development over the next few weeks.

The development is being delivered by South Yorkshire firm Dransfield Properties and will transform this former industrial site, bringing a new retail and commercial heart to the area.

Work to create a new wall and landscaping area is also well underway on the former Abacus building on Manchester Road in Stocksbridge.

As well as a new retail and office development due to be completed by winter 2015 the scheme will also bring 110 new three and four bedroomed executive homes to this part of north Sheffield being delivered by Stonebridge Homes.

The scheme is being built on a 28 acre site with direct access off the A616 Sheffield to Manchester Road and will be anchored by a new Tesco store.

Head of Communications at Dransfield Properties Amanda Holmes said: “This is a complex scheme with work progressing well on all parts of the site and we’re on schedule for opening in Spring 2016.

“Once the steel stockyard is fully relocated we’ll have access to the main site at Fox Valley and things will really start to take shape on site early next year.”

Dransfield Properties has received an investment of £8,111,040 from the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme 2007- 2013, which is managed by the Department for Communities and Local Government to bring forward the Fox Valley project.
