A South Yorkshire children’s charity has been given a £1,000 boost by the Dransfield Properties charitable foundation to help towards its work in the community.

The Exodus Project in Barnsley holds both after school clubs and weekend camps for youngsters who may not otherwise have the opportunity to take part in a whole range of events and activities.

The charity was founded 14 years ago and has transformed the former Methodist Church in South Hiendley into an activity centre known as Jenny’s Field, catering for children aged from eight years old through to 15.

The Exodus Project relies entirely on donations and grants to continue its work, it has around 60 volunteers and 300 children a week use its clubs and camps.

The donation from the Dransfield Foundation will help to fund weekend camps at Jenny’s Field.

Martin Sawdon of The Exodus Project, said: “Everyone at Exodus is thrilled to be supported by The Dransfield Foundation.

Not only have trustees been financially supportive but visited us and were so interested in and encouraging about our work among less advantaged children and young people in Barnsley. Sincere thanks."

The Dransfield Foundation was set up in April 2014 by the Penistone based property specialists Dransfield Properties.

Funds are partly raised by the company’s annual charity bike ride which has been running since 2007 and this year will see a team of 19 riders cycling 380 miles from Trieste in Italy to Munich in southern Germany.

Amanda Holmes, head of Communications at Dransfield Properties, said: “It was fantastic to see how the Exodus Project has transformed a former church into a fantastic space for children and how through their afternoon school activities and weekend camps they’re making a real difference in our area.

“We’re delighted to be able to help through the foundation and hope the charity continues to grow and thrive.”
