28 July 2014

The new £42 million Fox Valley development in Stocksbridge, north Sheffield is really taking shape, with good progress being made on all parts of the site this month.

The development is being brought forward by South Yorkshire company Dransfield Properties and will bring a new retail, housing and office development to the area which is due to be completed in Autumn 2015.

The scheme is being built on a 28 acre site with direct access off the A616 Sheffield to Manchester Road.
The first phase of work - constructing a new Tata Steel warehouse - is on schedule for completion in December and work has now started on cladding the building which will also have a new road and rail link.

Once the new facility is completed the steel which is currently stored on the main retail site can be moved – ready for work to start on this part of the site.

The team at Henry Boot Construction are also ahead of schedule on preparing the ground for the housing site where Stonebridge Homes will be building 110 new executive homes. The ground works on the retail site are also on-going in preparation for the main construction to get underway later in the autumn.

Work is progressing on the former steelworks canteen building next to the Tata Steel offices and the main demolition work has now been completed on the development site.

The former Abacus building on Manchester Road, where a new junction is being created for the Fox Valley site, is one of the buildings which have now been demolished. The area around Manchester Road and Hunshelf Road is now ready for the highway works to start later in the year.

Further works to create a new wall and landscaping area are now underway, Abacus Independent Financial Advisers relocated from their premises earlier in the year.

A team of contractors working with the Highways Agency is also working on the new roundabout on the A616 Stocksbridge bypass to upgrade the current access to the Tata steelworks and accommodate the new development. Work is on schedule to be completed by the end of August.

Head of Communications at Dransfield Properties Amanda Holmes said: “We’ve seen a great deal of progress on all aspects of the site over the last few weeks and it’s fantastic to see the project moving along.
“Relocating the Tata steel stockyard is obviously an important stage in the project and it’s great to see that work progressing on schedule which means we can start building on the main retail site this year.

“This is a really large and complex site but as work progresses I think people are really starting to appreciate what an exciting and ambitious project this is for the area.”

Dransfield Properties has received an investment of £8,111,040 from the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme 2007- 2013, which is managed by the Department for Communities and Local Government to bring forward the Fox Valley project.
