Work underway on latest phase at Lime Square in east Manchester
Work is now underway on the latest phase of work at the Lime Square development in Openshaw, east Manchester – bringing a brand new gym and further retail space to the centre.
The contractors PDR moved on to site last month to start work on the brand new 15,000 sq. ft. gym as well as further new retail units at the popular shopping centre which is anchored by an 80,000 sq. ft. Morrison’s store.
The Gym Group, founded by former England squash player John Treharne in 2007, will be bringing its unique approach to health and fitness to the centre when the company's new unit is completed and ready to open next summer.
The new gym will be arranged over two floors in a key unit fronting Ashton Old Road and will be joined by other new stores including the mobile phone company Phones 4 U.
They’ll join a retail line up which already includes B&M stores, Poundland and McDonalds as well as a 670 space car park. An extra 42 car parking spaces will also be created close to the gym.
2013 has been a busy year for the east Manchester shopping centre - McDonalds’s opened its new two storey restaurant in May followed by a GP practice catering for 5,000 patients later in the summer, Peak Pharmacy also joined the line-up last month.
Lime Square has been delivered by retail developers Dransfield Properties Ltd working in partnership with New East Manchester and Manchester City Council as part of the strategic regeneration of this part of the city.
Head of Communications at Dransfield Properties, Amanda Holmes, said: “A great deal has been achieved this year at Lime Square and it’s good to see the contractors back on site and starting work on this latest phase of our development in east Manchester.
“We look forward to see the work progress and our new businesses at Lime Square opening next year.”
A soil cutting ceremony is due to be held on site to mark the start of this latest phase of work on Thursday December 12th at 10am.
