Gateway project takes shape in Penistone, South Yorkshire

2 September 2013

The steel frame at Penistone’s new Gateway development is almost complete and work is now underway on the block work on the impressive town centre project.

The final pieces of steelwork will be slotted into place next week and the contractors PDR have also started work on the block work. The next stage of construction will see both the first floor and the ground floor slabs being put in place.

The brand new commercial development on St Mary’s Street is supported by ERDF grant funding and being delivered by Barnsley based Dransfield Properties Ltd.

The Gateway is the final phase of the £15 million Penistone Town Centre Regeneration Scheme which also includes the neighbouring TESCO store, town centre car park and brand new markets area which were completed in 2010.

Several local businesses are already committed to taking space in the Gateway once it's completed. The new development will bring;

• Six new commercial units ranging in size from 1,200 sq ft to 2,400 sq ft
• Up to 21 first floor office units for start up businesses
• 25 new staff car parking spaces
• A shared lobby and facilities

Head of Communications for Dransfield Properties, Amanda Holmes, said: "We started on site in May and it’s fantastic to be able to see the development taking shape and the steelwork almost completed.

“The main building work will be completed in November and everyone on the team is looking forward to seeing this end result of this final phase of the town centre regeneration project.”

 Dransfield Properties has attracted £1.2 million of investment from the European Union to bring forward this final phase of the project with grant funding through the European Regional Development Fund as part of the support for the region's economic development through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme 2007-13.
