Family Surgery gets ready for move to Lime Square

The team at The Family Surgery are getting ready to relocate to their brand new premises at Lime Square in Openshaw this weekend.

The GP practice was founded in east Manchester more than 40 years ago and the move to larger, purpose built premises will allow the team to offer a greater range of services with the opportunity for further expansion.

The building work at the new practice has been completed ahead of schedule allowing the 11-strong team to relocate from its current base on Ashton New Road this weekend ready for opening on Monday (August 19th) at Lime Square, off Ashton Old Road.

The new Lime Square premises cover 6,124 sq ft giving The Family Surgery four times more space to cater for the practice’s 5,000 patients in a purpose built space.

Patients will access the new state of the art surgery from the ground floor next to Card Factory at Lime Square and be taken up to the reception area by a stairway or lift.

Dr Akeel Jamil, from The Family Surgery, said: “I think it’s fair to say we have outgrown our current building and we have been looking for new premises for some time now. This is a fantastic location for us and the move will enable us to look at the services we deliver and give us much more flexible space for our patients as well as our staff.”

Lime Square, off Ashton Old Road in Openshaw is owned by Dransfield Properties Ltd. The company has worked closely with New East Manchester and Manchester City Council on the strategic regeneration of this part of east Manchester, bringing a new district centre to the area.

The centre is home to a Morrisons store as well further retail outlets. As well as the new surgery three other new units have also been completed this month – one will house a 1,453 sq ft pharmacy to complement the practice.

Management surveyor at Dransfield Properties, James Shepherd, said: “We are delighted that the Family Surgery is opening at Lime Square next week. This is a great location for the practice with good access and parking and other facilities for patients.

“It’s great news that they have been able to move in a little earlier than anticipated and we wish the team all the very best in their new premises.”
