The frozen food retailer Iceland Foods is to open a brand new store in the latest phase of the Alexandra Park development in Tunstall, Stoke on Trent.

Construction on the development site starts next Monday (July 15th) and the frozen food specialist, one of the fastest growing retailers in the country, will occupy a 6,135 sq ft unit once the building work is completed in November this year.

The company has taken a 15 year lease on the new unit at Alexandra Park and Iceland’s new store will create 20 new jobs in the area - the company was ranked as Britain’s Best Big Company to Work For in the 2012 Sunday Times Survey.

Founded in Shropshire in 1970 Iceland is a fast growing food retailer with more than 750 stores across the country.

As well as the new Iceland store the developers and owners of Alexandra Park, Yorkshire based Dransfield Properties, have had interest from several other national retailers about the remaining units. This phase of the development brings five new units to the centre.

The new retail units at Alexandra Park will sit alongside the Boots Pharmacy and Primary Care Centre which both opened in September 2011.

The development is built around a central 240 space car park with good links to the town centre and is also home to the impressive Shard sculpture.

Retail Property Director at Dransfield Properties, Andrew Malley, said: “We are really pleased to be starting work on this final phase of the Alexandra Park development.

“Iceland Foods is the first of a number of retailers we will be announcing over the coming weeks and months and we are delighted to be welcoming the company to Alexandra Park.

“We’re confident that this is a great location for Iceland and a great addition to the retail line up in the town.”

The Nottingham based firm J. Tomlinson are the main contractor on the project and work is due to get underway on Monday with completion scheduled for November this year.

An official soil cutting ceremony is also due to take place later in the month.
