New McDonalds at Lime Square in Openshaw on target for May opening!

30 April 2013

The brand new McDonald's restaurant at Openshaw’s Lime Square is nearing completion – ready for a May opening.

The restaurant will be operated by Gerald Thompson as a Franchise, who has six restaurants in the local area.

Gerald Thompson started his career with McDonald’s as a part time staff member. In 2000 he purchased his first McDonald’s restaurant in Middleton Gardens, Manchester.
He puts his success down to having a strong belief in people development.

Over 95 per cent of his management team within his restaurants started off as staff members.

Gerald says: “I am committed to providing my customers with fast, friendly service in a comfortable relaxed environment, I also believe that we have a responsibility to the community in which we serve and would appreciate any feedback from the local residents.

“My goal over the next 18 months is to identify, develop and train at least 10 people from the new intake of staff to take on management roles within this restaurant.”

The striking two storey building stands on a corner plot just off Ashton Old Road at the east Manchester shopping centre.
The team at McDonald’s has been recruiting in recent weeks to fill the 70 new positions being created at the drive thru restaurant.

They plan to open on the 15 May at 11am under the McDonald’s ‘Made for You’ format where everything is made to order.
Designed to achieve high standards of energy efficiency the 5,239 sq ft restaurant has LED lighting and all cooking oil will be recycled into bio-diesel - plastics and cardboard will also be collected on site and recycled.

Lime Square already houses an 80,000 sq ft Morrison’s store as well as a host of other retailers including Poundland and B & M Bargains.

Delivered by Yorkshire based retail property developers Dransfield Properties, the company has worked in partnership with Manchester City Council and New East Manchester to bring a new district centre to the area.

Head of Communications at Dransfield Properties, Amanda Holmes, said; “We are delighted to be welcoming McDonald’s to Lime Square, we have had so many calls and emails about the opening there certainly seems to be a great deal of interest in the local community.”
