Work Starts on Gainsborough’s Brand New Department Store!

22 May 2012

Work is underway on Gainsborough’s brand new Brown’s Department Store which is due to open its doors to shoppers at Marshall’s Yard later this summer.

The independent family owned company has taken possession of the former Carpetright unit at Marshall’s Yard and contractors are working on its transformation to create a stylish new 12,000 sq ft department store over two floors.

Browns was established in 1896 and currently has stores in York, Helmsley and Beverley selling a wide range of high quality products – including men’s and womenswear and cosmetics.

The new Browns of Gainsborough will sell a fantastic range of brands. As well as Benefit Clarins, Clinique, East, Barbour Ted Baker and Gant the company has announce d this week that Superdry, Sandwich and Phase Eight are also going in to the store.

Around 24 new jobs are being created at the store and the company will be recruiting over the next few weeks. The fabulous £650,000 interior fit out will be completed in time for an August opening.

Managing director of the Browns group, Nick Brown, is the fourth generation of his family to head the chain of independent department stores. He’s delighted that the company is joining the line up at the award winning development.

Mr Brown said: “Marshall’s Yard is a great development and we are really excited about opening our fourth store here in Lincolnshire. We’ve had some great feedback already about the shop opening and lots of excitement about the brands we’ve got coming in.

“We’ll be announcing more new brands over the coming weeks as the opening date gets nearer.”

Designers Jamieson Smith Associates have been commissioned to plan the  stunning interior for the new Browns store with a fresh and contemporary look – they’ve designed a glass lift and sweeping staircase to take shoppers up to the first floor whilst the ground floor will house a contemporary cosmetics department.

Centre manager Jackie Helliwell said: “It’s great to see work starting on the new Browns store, the plans look fantastic and we can’t wait to see the finished product!

“We know from the feedback we get from our customers that the high quality range that Browns stock will be really popular here.”
